ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES & MANAGEMENT

Environmental management is a growth industry world-wide. New jobs are opening up continually as new issues come to light and changes in legislation and public attitudes influence the spawning of new industries. Innovations and inventions continue to move the environmental industry into new realms, and with this forward march, unforseen jobs and career opportunities will continue to develop. Anyone who studies environmental science and management is, no doubt, developing a wealth of future career opportunities.

Train For the Future/ Not the Present
The problem with most training courses is that they have been developed to serve needs that where identified in the past, or at best, the present. The problem is that the world economy is developing so quickly, that the difference between employment conditions of today, and those when you graduate, will be greater than ever. If you want a training course that serves you well, then you need one that provides you with the knowledge and skills that will allow you to understand and adapt to future employment needs.

The most successful people have always had one thing in common: they do things a little differently from most people. With this in mind, our courses offer huge flexibility in order that every graduate can be a little different from everyone else who studies with us, or anyone else for that matter. If you design your own certificate or diploma, it is next to impossible that you will ever be competing with someone for a job who has the same mix of subjects that you have studied. As a graduate of this school, that makes you unique! With such unique training, your approach to problems in the workplace is also more likely to be much different to the "average" employee.

You can design your own Certificate…

We now offer greater flexibility than ever before! Utilise any of our 100 hour short courses as a credit towards a formal qualification. (Each 100 hour course equals 1 unit).

REQUIREMENTS

Certificate: 6 units, all in the same subject, or a related subject area. The subjects you choose should be confirmed as being suitable with the school.

Advanced Certificates: 8 units in the same or a related subject area, plus 100 hours of work experience or industry related meetings in an industry that reinforces or builds on the material you study as part of the Advanced Certificate.

PRE-REQUISITES
Certificates: Year 10 or mature age, or 1 year of work experience.
Advanced Certificates: Year 11 or mature age, a recognised Certificate, or 1 year work experience.

The Certificates & Advanced Certificates have been developed to meet the standard established by the International Accreditation & Recognition Council (IARC), and have been formally recognised by that body.

FEES:
There are two options:
  • Pay for each unit individually when you enrol it. By paying the individual fee for each unit at the time you enrol. This may make payment easier, as payment amounts are lower, but the total cost of your course ends up higher than for Option 2.
  • Pay for the entire qualification (see our current Fee Schedule). The overall cost ends up lower this way.

Research Projects
There are three distinct Research Project modules available, which are compulsory components in some courses; and options that may be chosen by the student for others.

Each is 100 hrs duration, and involves two parts.

The first part develops general research skills through some conventional correspondence study. The second part involves developing and carrying through a research project that focuses on a subject relevant to the students chosen discipline, decided upon in liaison with their tutor.

Research Project I develops the students' capability to plan and conduct research into the current status of an aspect of their industry, and to complete a descriptive report based on that research. It also aims to apply and build on skills and competencies gained through previously studied modules, developing initiative and innovation.
Throughout this module the student will:
  • Determine areas where there is need for research, relevant to the student's area of study.
  • Explain research methods, including experimental techniques.
  • Demonstrate and explain the basic statistical methods used for research.
  • Prepare a research report in a format, which conforms to normal industry procedures.
  • Conduct an information search into a defined and relevant issue.
  • Conduct a minor statistical research project into a well defined area.
  • Prepare a report on a research project conducted into a relevant subject.
Research Project II further develops the students ability to monitor and evaluate a common process (or processes) relevant to their studies.

Research Project III builds on the prior research projects, improving the students abilities to develop innovative approaches to workplace activities, through systematic research, in a relevant industry.
