FITNESS DISTANCE LEARNING COURSE
COURSE STRUCTURE
There are four parts to this course:
1. There are 25 modules/subjects to be studied. These are all available by correspondence study.
a/ CORE MODULES (1200 hrs)
Biochemistry, Business Studies, Instructional Skills, Workplace Health & Safety, Recreation Marketing, Recreation Management-Human Resources, Recreation Management -Financial & Clerical, Recreation Management-Policies & Procedures, Health & Fitness I, Human Biology IA & IB, Introduction to Recreation Facilities, Recreation Facility Use, Recreation Facility Maintenance, Recreation Facility Design.
b/ ELECTIVES (800 hrs -your selection!)
Choices include: Health & Fitness I & II, Human Nutrition I, II & III; Remedial Massage, Human Biology II & III; Introduction to Psychology, Psychology & Counselling, Healthy Buildings I, Healthy Buildings II, Medicinal Herbs.
2. WORKPLACE PROJECTS
Two 100 hour work oriented projects, each involving a series of PBL projects:
Workshop I
This module involves undertaking three problem based learning projects to solve set hypothetical problems, which are highly specified, and in the following areas:
1. Workplace Tools, Equipment and Materials: Identifying and describing the operation of tools and equipment used in the workplace; routine maintenance of tools and equipment; identifying and comparing materials used in the workplace; using different materials to perform workplace tasks.
2. Workplace Skills: Determining key practical skills in the workplace; identifying and comparing commonly-performed workplace tasks; determining acceptable standards for workplace tasks; implementing techniques for improving workplace efficiency.
3. Workplace Safety: Identifying health and safety risks in the workplace; complying with industry WH&S standards; developing safety guidelines for handling dangerous items.
Workshop II
This module involves undertaking three problem based learning projects to solve set hypothetical problems, which are highly specified, and in the following areas:
1. Identifying Technical Problems and Collecting Samples or Data: Investigating technical problems in the workplace; collecting and treating samples, data or other evidence.
2. Analytical Procedures: Using specialised technical equipment to analyse samples, data or other evidence; undertaking routine and advanced scientific or technical analyses.
3. Workplace Operations: Describing the operations and equipment of a laboratory or other technical environment.
3. Industry CONFERENCES or SEMINARS
Attendance at conferences, seminars etc totalling 100 hrs
4. RESEARCH PROJECT
Two projects (2 X 100 hrs), dealing with different aspects of the workplace.
STUDY SEQUENCE
The 20 modules are divided into six stages. In stage 1, you study Biochemistry, Business Studies, Instructional Skills and Workplace Health & safety. This stage is completed before workshops, research projects or other modules. emaining core modules are then completed before commencing electives.
WORK OPPORTUNITIES
This course is designed to make graduates both attractive and useful to employers; for example:
* Instructional Skills will provide you with an authentic qualification to teach vocational education
* Remedial Massage will provide a qualification to allow you to practice as a masseur
ARTICULATION
This course articulates with Advanced Diplomas in Naturopathy offered by Health Schools Australia. As such, graduates of this course will receive significant credits towards studies in the Naturopathy Diploma with HSA. Graduates from the Diploma in Naturopathy from HSA will be exempt from 900 hrs of this 2500 hr course.
Enrolment fee does not include exam fees and workshop fees.
