What is Needed in a Remote Workplace?

The remote workplace can vary. It might be open land with a few amenities. For example, on a farm or in a nature reserve, it could be a premises owned by a business, such as a warehouse in a remote location, or it could be a worker’s home. The design of the remote workplace will depend on both the industry and the person at work, and must address:

  • Necessary space
  • Comfortable work environment
  • Necessary equipment
  • Ability to work with minimal distraction
  • Ability to communicate with the office/manager/other staff at set times during the work week
  • Ability to take part in necessary meetings or other staff gatherings.

How these needs will be met will also depend on whether the remote work is being undertaken in a home setting or at a remote site owned or operated by the company or organisation.
